What is name numerology?
Name numerology is a symbolic system that assigns numerical values to letters in a name and uses those values to describe several name-based positions. NumberOrigin uses one declared Pythagorean A-to-Z method so the arithmetic can be inspected instead of presented as an unexplained result.
The calculation is deterministic once the name and rules are fixed. The meanings are interpretations within numerology traditions, not a scientifically validated personality test or a prediction of what will happen.
What name should you use?
For this calculator, enter the full birth name recorded at birth, including first, middle, and last names. Leave out titles and terminal generational suffixes. Nicknames, married names, business names, and date-of-birth calculations are outside this workflow.
Accented Latin letters are folded to their base letters, punctuation is treated as a separator, and unsupported scripts or digits are rejected rather than silently guessed. The calculation runs in your browser; the raw name is not sent to NumberOrigin or placed in the URL.

How the Pythagorean name method works
Pythagorean letter values
NumberOrigin maps the supported Latin alphabet in a repeating sequence from 1 through 9. The same letter map is applied consistently to the prepared name.
A = 1, B = 2, C = 3 ... I = 9 J = 1, K = 2, L = 3 ... R = 9 S = 1, T = 2, U = 3 ... Z = 8
How NumberOrigin calculates each position
Expression uses every retained letter. Soul Urge uses A, E, I, O, and U. Personality uses the consonants, with Y treated as a consonant. Hidden Passion counts the Pythagorean values represented in the full name and preserves a tie when more than one value occurs most often.
How totals are reduced
The calculator adds the selected letter values, then reduces the total by adding its digits. Core name values preserve 11, 22, and 33 when the reduction reaches one of those exact Master Numbers. The calculator shows the selected letters, raw sum, and reduction trail so the result can be checked.
Why another calculator may produce a different result
Differences usually come from the name entered, the letter system, vowel policy, treatment of Y, normalization rules, or when Master Numbers are preserved. NumberOrigin uses the Pythagorean method declared here and does not mix it with Chaldean output. Read the Pythagorean vs. Chaldean comparison for the system-level distinction.
For the broader alphabet, reduction, and numerology-method context, see the numerology methods guide.
What the name numbers represent
Expression Number
Expression uses every retained letter in the full name. In numerology traditions it is commonly associated with the way a person’s abilities, interests, or outward potential are described. See the Expression Number guide for the dedicated interpretation.
Soul Urge Number
Soul Urge uses the declared vowel set and is traditionally associated with inward motivation or private desires. See the Soul Urge guide for the dedicated interpretation.
Personality Number
Personality uses the consonants under NumberOrigin’s stated Y rule. It is traditionally used to discuss outward presentation rather than inner motivation. Continue to the Personality Number guide for the dedicated interpretation.
Hidden Passion: repeated values in your name
How frequency determines the result
Hidden Passion is the value that appears most often after every retained letter has been converted through the Pythagorean map. The calculator shows the frequency of each value and the letters contributing to it.
What a tie means
If two or more values occur equally often, NumberOrigin preserves the tie instead of forcing one value to win. A tie is a normal outcome of the declared frequency rule, not an error or a reason to invent an additional interpretation.
Hidden Passion is an additional numerology convention included in this name-focused workflow. It should be read as symbolic language, not as a validated measurement of personality or ability.
Name numerology and a full numerology chart
Worked example: Nora Elise Bennett
For this fictional full name, the Pythagorean values add to 70 for Expression, 36 for Soul Urge, and 34 for Personality. Those totals reduce to Expression 7, Soul Urge 9, and Personality 7. The live calculator shows the same letter trail after you submit a name.
Expression: 70 → 7 Soul Urge: 36 → 9 Personality: 34 → 7 Hidden Passion: value 5 appears 7 times
The calculator provides the complete letter trail and frequency distribution so the result can be checked rather than accepted as an unexplained output.
What name numerology can and cannot tell you
The arithmetic can show how a declared method transforms a name. It cannot establish a person’s character, guarantee compatibility, predict an event, or replace judgment about a relationship, career, financial decision, or health question.
Generalized personality descriptions can feel uniquely personal even when they are broad. The psychological term for this tendency is the Barnum effect.

Name Numerology questions
Which name should I use for name numerology?
Use your full birth name, including all personal name components recorded at birth. Leave out titles and terminal generational suffixes. Nickname, married-name, and business-name modes are not part of this calculation.
How is name numerology calculated?
NumberOrigin converts the retained letters of a full birth name into Pythagorean values from 1 through 9, adds the selected values for each position, and reduces the totals while preserving 11, 22, and 33 under the stated method.
Why is my result different from another name numerology calculator?
The name entered, letter system, vowel policy, Y rule, normalization, and Master Number rules may differ. Compare those inputs and the visible arithmetic before treating either result as an error.
Does name numerology use the Pythagorean method?
Yes. NumberOrigin’s name workflow uses the declared Pythagorean A-to-Z sequence, treats Y as a consonant, and documents its reduction and Master Number rules. It does not calculate Chaldean results on this page.
Does the calculator store my name?
No. The calculation runs in your browser. The raw name is not sent to NumberOrigin, placed in the URL, or included in analytics.
Can I calculate a nickname or business name?
Not in this workflow. The current calculator is deliberately limited to one full birth name so its input and method remain clear. A separate mode would need its own search demand and calculation rules.
